Traffic Light System

I wanted to put out a brief document that explains a feedback system, which I have implemented in my science classes.

The system provides a visual reference as to whether or not your assignment is something that represents your best work, and that it is ready to be put to bed. In other words, you can move on and stop working on that assignment.

On the flip side the system also provides you with indicators for when you need to revisit an assignment and tweak it, or change it significantly.

A Green Light encompasses any assignment that is good to go. 85 - 100 range. That's a big range, but you will also receive personal comments, as well as a numeric 1- 100%, letter A – F, or symbolic grade, like check, check +, check -. The Green Light is applied to any assignment that is worthy of being finished, and that represents your best work.

A Yellow Light is an assignment that needs some improvement or attention, and falls within the 75-84 range.

The Red Light is an assignment that's simply not ready for prime time, or one that has not been turned in at all. It means that you need to take immediate action. Red Light assignments fall within a range of 0-70.

If you receive a communication from me, which contains a Green Light, you should be happy with your efforts and focus on the next set of assignments.

If you receive a Yellow Light, you should view it as an opportunity to improve your grade.

If you receive a Red Light, you should clue in to the fact that the assignment needs your immediate attention. Red Light notifications could seriously impact your grade.
